This is from our new Eco Series with a new process that uses natural cork for the center section of the strap.
We had this idea that we’d like to make guitar straps out of hemp because I guess we thought it would be cool and also earth friendly. But as it turns out, hemp is pretty boring design-wise. It’s really kind of just canvas. So that was disappointing, but by the time we figured that out we were all fired up to start using some eco-friendly alternative materials. So we looked at a bunch of different things and what we came up with is…cork. Yes, cork.
Cork is as strong as leather, completely renewable, made without nasty chemicals and is positive for the environment. Also it’s light weight, looks great and every piece is unique. So we went kind of bonkers about cork around here and now we are introducing a new strap series with nine different cork grain patterns.
We were concerned about whether cork is really strong enough to hold up to rockin’ and rollin’ all night long, but we looked into it and we found out that natural cork is very, very strong. It’s strong enough to be used for wallets, backpacks, flooring, shoes and in the Orion crew capsule that NASA is building to go into deep space. It’s also waterproof and fireproof and as an added bonus you can attach your set lists right to your strap with thumb tacks. Just kidding, cork bulletin boards are a different thing altogether.
